An end unit may also be referred to as a subscriber unit or subscriber premises equipment (SPE). The data may be broadcast on at least one of two separate channels (e.g., frequency channels). Alternatively, the data may be broadcast on both channels. An end unit may also be referred to as a receiver, receiver/decoder, subscriber unit, etc. In such a system, each end unit may receive data on both channels. One or more channels may be of a different carrier frequency, one or both of the channels may be time-multiplexed in TDM manner, or both may be frequency and time multiplexed. Generally, in broadcast systems, there is one service provider and there are one or more service areas. Each service area is served by one or more control channel transmitters, and one or more data channels. Each subscriber unit is an end unit that may receive data on one or more of the data channels. In some broadcast networks, there may be a need to change the configuration and organization of the broadcast network system (e.g., a cable television system), for example, as new subscriber units are added to the network and old subscriber units may be taken off-line (e.g., turned off). There may be a need to temporarily cease broadcast of a service and bring the service off-line, re-configure the system in order to deploy new or additional services, for example, services delivered via satellite, etc. A need may exist for certain service providers or other types of users of the broadcast network system to modify the configuration or organization of the broadcast network system in real time, with little or no disruption to the broadcast network system. A number of obstacles may be encountered while attempting to solve the aforementioned problems. For example, each service provider or other type of user may have its own end unit that is interfaced with the broadcast network system and has its own configuration. Also, service providers or other types of users may not be able to use or have access to the end units of other service providers or other types of users.
